Synology add drive without formatting. Mar 30, 2011 · I have an old 750GB hard drive with some data on it I'd like to transfer to these drives. How do I make that drive work? The Synology will erase all data and set up its own format when an internal drive is inserted, no matter what format the drive has, unless you are migrating drives from one Synology to another. 2 brand new WD NAS RED drives, and 2 existing drives I had with a lot of media on them which I want to transfer to the new drives.
